Researching and obtaining property records for properties located in Los Angeles, California is as simple as a few clicks of the mouse on your computer. Of course you also have other options as well. Not only can you search property records online, but you can also go directly to the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office for the information.
The website for searching online is http://assessor.lacounty.gov/extranet/default.aspx. This site gives you the option of searching a property by address or the Assessor’s identification number. A lot of detailed information can be derived from this website for any property in Los Angeles. The site will also list the Assessor’s district office where the physical records are kept.

Researching and obtaining death records in Los Angeles County has never been easier, but there are a few guidelines to keep in mind. Death records are available for a fee at the Los Angeles County Recorder office. Only certain individuals can receive an authorized certified copy of a death record. All other individuals may obtain an informational certified copy. Information concerning how to request and receive death records as well as pricing is readily available on the Los Angeles County Recorder website http://www.lavote.net/Default.cfm.
Unfortunately, random searches of death records are not permitted. You must provide an application for each record you wish to research and obtain. You may place a request for the record over the internet or in person. Applications can be downloaded and completed from their website. The Los Angeles County Recorder has the important job of maintaining certain public records for the county. The office not only has the enormous responsibility of recording legal documents involving real property ownership such as deeds and mortgage records, but they also maintain all vital statistics records including birth, death and marriage. For a fee, hard copies of any of these records can be obtained from the County Recorder office location.
Copies of records can be obtained either by mail or in person, but there are certain laws involving who can purchase certified copies and who can receive informational copies. If you are looking for country court records from Los Angeles County, you can obtain these records in a variety of ways, depending on the age of the case and what information you already have about the case.

If you are not sure where the case was heard, you can search for it at www.lasuperiorcourt.org. A case number is required order original case documents. Case numbers can be researched by calling the civil index clerk at (213) 974-1378 for cases before 1965 or (213) 974-5171 for cases after 1965. Criminal cases before 1965 are kept at the Archives and Records Center, while cases after 1965 are located at the Criminal Justice Center, 210 W. Temple St., Rm. M-6, Los Angeles 90012. The Hall of Records houses birth, death and marriage records for the county. The office is open during regular business hours. The building also houses the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, the Probation Department, the Alternative Public Defender’s office and the Regional Planning office. There are also publicly accessible underground tunnels that lead to the County Hall of Administration.
